Dear colleagues and friends:

It is for me a great pleasure to present the V Pan-American Course of standardized Ocular ultrasound. An event of the highest scientific category which is being held for the first time in Colombia and where we have the fortune to have worldwide recognized speakers, such as Dr. Karl Ossoining, father of the standardized Ocular ultrasound.

This course has been designed to revise and cover all aspects of the standardized ocular ultrasound, from its physics basis to the most advance areas which include examination of the anterior segment and special situations in oncology.

We have designed a special symposium in Biometry due to its increasing importance in the calculation of intraocular lenses. Professor Wolfang Haigis, worldwide recognized for the development of the formula which has his name, has agreed to present this seminar along with recognized national professors.

Due to the increasing importance in diagnostics, that OCT is currently having in Ophthalmology, we have include a course that will revise physics, interpretation and its value in special situations such as Retina, Glaucoma and anterior segment.

We want to extend an invitation to all specialized and general ophthalmologists which share a common interest in ocular ultrasound to join our course. It is also a unique and great opportunity for residents in the ophthalmology specialization program and other allied health personnel to immerse in the exciting world.

Bogota, capital of Colombia and host city of the congress, at 2600mts above sea level is a palpating, modern and cosmopolitan city which brings along thousands of tourists in search of cultural diversity that offers this Latin-American capital. I invite you to explore the city and enjoy the wonderful life it has to offer.

DR. CARLOS EDUARDO SOLARTE MD
President of the course.
